As the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games, this city is going to be the place for summer vacations. Not only will the games be points of interest but other sites around the city as well. Visitors can also soak up the sun on some infamous beaches such as Ipanema Beach or Copacabana Beach.
Great Barrier Reef
With the new BBC documentary, there is renewed interest in visiting the Great Barrier Reef. This provides visitors with some breathtaking sights of the 1,400 mile stretch of coral reefs and islands. Some magnificent sea life, such as manta rays, can be observed.
Set along the banks for the Garonne River, Bordeaux is another possible summer holiday destination. The region produces the most wine in France and as such is opening a new museum known as La Cite du Vin, which will chronicle the development of wine and the various vintages created over time.
This year marks the hundredth anniversary of the Easter Rising which helped spur the drive to independence. Expect to find numerous events here in commemoration of this milestone. Also, new here is the Teeling Whiskey Distillery which is the first of its kind to open in the Irish capital.
