Kauai is the fourth largest island in Hawaii. It is sometimes referred to as the ‘Garden Isle’, which is a suitable and accurate term. This island lies to northern part of Hawaii and is one of the oldest islands. The island has emerald valleys, mountain spires, and jagged cliffs, which have formed over the course of years. The region is replete with tropical rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and rivers. Some regions within Kauai are accessible only by sea or air, which offer unbelievable views.

Besides the natural beauty of Kauai, there are a plethora of fun-filled and adventurous activities. Kayaking on the Wailua River is the most popular activity. Snorkeling on Poipu Beach is also popular. Another favorite one is hiking the trails of Kokee State Park. Travelers may also go ziplining near Kauai’s lush green valleys. Kauai offers nearly seven unique microclimates from lush interior regions to arid spots located on the West Side. Mount Waialeale is Kauai’s predominant uninhabited interior. It is a rainforest that receives close to 400 inches of rain every year. The rain that showers on Mt Waialeale has no impact on the coastal regions of the island, which receive much less rain in comparison with the central regions. The rainfall occurs predominantly in the night. The showers of rain are mostly brief. Almost all rain showers are followed by picturesque rainbows.

The trade winds ensure a cool atmosphere in most of the Kauai region. The light winds help drive away the humidity. The wonderful weather ensures that travelers can visit Kauai at any time of the year.

Lihue Airport is the primary airport in Kauai. It is situated in southeastern Lihue. Most airlines offer non-stop flights to Kauai. Visitors also get the option of entering Honolulu International Airport.

There are different types of accommodation available that suits every need. There are plenty of budget hotels and luxury resorts to choose from. There are plenty of accommodations in North Shore, East Side, Lihue, South Shore, and West Side. The region is also renowned for its guest cottages and bread and breakfast hotels. It is a good idea to rent a car if you wish to explore the island. This gives you the flexibility to tour Waimea Canyon and reach Hanalei Town the next day. Shuttle service and guided tours are also available. However, the stops are limited.
