The Parthenon in Athens’ considered the most famed surviving building belonging to ancient Greece as well as one among the best architecture globally.

The Parthenon stood tall as Athens’ Acropolis for roughly about 2,500 years. It was constructed to thank the city’s Goddess Athena for protecting Greece and Athens during Persian Wars. The construction was officially named as Temple of Athena, the Virgin.

Throughout its entire tenure, Parthenon did function most essentially as a temple of the Greeks. It was also a fortress, treasury, mosque and a church. At the present time, it’s regarded as a popular tourist destination and a recognizable icon worldwide.

History

In order to replace an ancient temple that was destroyed by Persians, Parthenon was built at the advisory of Pericles. Pericles was the top fifth century BC Athenian politician. It was constructed under sculptor Phidias’ general supervision who also undertook the responsibility of sculptural decoration while Kallikrates and Iktinos were the architects. The intention to build Parthenon was to keep Athena Parthenos’ statue, a massive 40 footer, sculptured by Pheidias.

Construction did begin in the year 447 BC. It was subsequently completed by the year 438 BC. Decorative works on it did continue until the year 433 BC. There are accounts related to expenses incurred while building the Parthenon and reports suggest it was very expensive to transport the stone all the way from Mt. Pentelicus, which was about 16 kilometers from Athens.

The temple still remained intact in fourth century AD. At this time, it never favored Athens as the Roman’s provincial city. By around fifth century, the great Athena’s statue was robbed by one among the Emperors of Rome, and shifted to Constantinople. It was then destroyed, perhaps during the city’s demise at the time of the 4th Crusade in the year 1204.

After this, Parthenon was transformed to a church in the name of Virgin Mary. The transformation of temple to a Christian church did involve removal of internal columns as well as some cella walls. This eventually led to dispersal and removal of some ancient sculptures. Those which portrayed pagan gods perhaps had been removed deliberately or destroyed.

Change is imminent, but how far should one stretch his arms? For sure, man has no boundaries for creative ideas, and the beauty is it’s all accepted fair and square. Any country undergoes major changes economically which in turn directly improves its progress. Marketing strategies employed now are more creative that don’t want to see important structures go waste. You might just be wondering what the topic’s all about as it’s being stretched a bit politically. Well, the connection is pretty simple. We all have a government in our respective countries, and there’re marketing strategies appropriately concentrated upon. The idea is preserving buildings of significance and commercializing them accordingly. Especially in India, things are heading to a bigger commercial makeover where ancient structures are being converted to fantastic hotels. It’s like hitting two birds with a single stone, one is you’re preserving the building; second, you’re not allowing it to go a waste, instead making money and uplifting the economy. We’ll see how a jam factory turned into an overnight star in Australia now.

The Henry Jones Art Hotel, Hobart, Australia

When you approach the Henry Jones Art Hotel in Australia, you’d still see the signboard of the jam factory which existed before. George Peacock, a businessman found the harbor location as an ideal spot for setting up jam production and eventually a factory in 1861. The company prospered very well under one of his employees by the name of Henry Jones and saw expansion in business covering all the buildings in a block along the dock. At the present time, the canning machinery and boilers are all gone. The hotel now has 56 rooms and focuses strictly on artwork that features 300 works or more created by art school graduates of Tasmania.

Every year, it’s the same question that strikes everybody, and that’s where do we go for vacations? Traveling can be easy if everybody is putting in their valuable expertise in organizing a good journey, but not oftentimes the best planning takes you to the best destinations. We tend not to capture the true essence of a place, but rely on other travelers’ thoughts before embarking on a trip. Best advices on travel would probably come from travelers not able to get rid of a particular place that urges them to go back again and again. How about visiting an island with flavors of two countries spreading distinctively? While in Curacao, you’re definitely bound to feel the cultures of both the Dutch and the colorful West Indies.

Curacao

For the most part, Curacao is not an elite Caribbean island. Definitely, it has the curvy beaches, sky blue seas as well as coral reef filled with plenty of marine life. Life in Curacao is more to that with outstanding cosmopolitan cultures and an exceedingly good capital City in Willemstad. Curacao mostly depicts dazzling Caribbean colors coupled with shades of colonial architecture.

Curacao celebrated its 1st independence in 2010 when they dismantled Netherland Antilles. As you stroll through the place, you could still find similarities matching Dutch lifestyle with flavors of West Indies spread properly too. Take the trolley train ride along the bright Willemstad streets. The historic center of the city carries reflection of the island’s distant past as a trading powerhouse globally.

After a tired day at work, what do you like to do? No, we are not talking about the usual TV scenes, but making plans for a beach venture where you’d lighten up yourself for a pleasant night ahead. Again, finding a beach to suit your mood wouldn’t be that difficult, but getting to a beach that has an interesting tale to tell would be an opportunity well sought.

In the UK, concepts of new age seaside resorts boomed way back in 1700s, at a time when doctors were advertizing about ocean water and coastal weather’s health benefits. During that time, visitors to beach would change clothes in bathing machines, some kind of a changing room where visitors would change on wheels that later were drawn to the sea directly through horses. This was implemented as the elderly or ill would find it easier to touch the sea. Victorian times saw women and that includes Queen Victoria too utilizing bathing machines in order to safeguard their image. The idea of bathing machines saw its demise as sunbathing became more popular giving rise to tents or hunts in favor of them in 1900s. These served as visitors’ private beachside camps. England’s first ever municipal beach tents were built in 1909 in Bournemouth.

At the present time, there’re around 2000 beach tents in various sizes and shapes lining the 5.5-mile Bournemouth beach stretch where about 70% are owned by privateers while the rest is maintained by City Council. Typically, huts come with curtains, deck chairs and small gas stovetops, all these at $13.70 per day. Get ready for a trippy adventure that lies ahead as the evening turns cold and the night still young.

Egypt, as we know, holds many secrets as to how civilizations evolved over time while their methods and practices are strictly being studied in great detail even now. Egypt’s evolution in and of itself is very interesting and history books really paved the way to relive the reign of the supreme Pharaohs, their superstitions and doctrines. Even now, Egypt is visited by tourists all around the world annually reliving sites of impeccable history and structures that speak of great architectural methods employed.

Traveling to Egypt would really open your eyes to the amount of creativity these people had that’s pretty hard to imagine. There’re also rumors connecting Egyptian civilization to aliens due to the enormity of a number of delicate architectural and civil projects undertaken that possibly would have been a difficult task with no help whatsoever. Well, one thing was for sure, Egyptians were not new to science and medicine those days, and it makes sense when theories portray their strengths saying they had the necessary equipment and manpower to build such architectural delights. With a mighty workforce that history says they usually got when it came to building skyscrapers such as pyramids and other structures, it’s hard to digest the fact, yet by all means very possible.

We now visit two Egyptian places namely Saqqara and Luxor.

Saqqara

Saqqara is situated 30 km from Cairo. Saqqara is an exotic funeral ground known to be cemetery of an old Egyptian capital called Memphis. You would surely sink into the construction process involved while taking a stroll around the pyramids, as the structures are simply magnificent and true engineering marvels. You can also have a look at many mastabas. For the adventure seekers, there’s more opportunity for you to go through Zoser funeral complex, Serapeum and Mereruka’s tomb.

Luxor

Located 500 km from Cairo, was once the lost Thebes City known for the biggest outdoor museum in the world. Modernization of the city along the East Bank could be felt as you gaze through Karnark temples and Luxor’s ruins that are quite splendid and fascinating religious sites. West Bank lies adjacent to river Nile offering sites of funerary temples and tombs that belonged to Egypt’s prestigious rulers to include Valley of Kings and Queens respectively. At the present time, the site is flocked by farmers of the 21st century.

We know lying down in the beaches and basking in the sun is fun, especially for people who love to get tanned, but otherwise too, beaches are a source of inspiration for many travelers. People interested in music could put up a tent at night if the beach zone allows and get creative to pen down lyrics, compose or write music. There’re also people that get bored traveling to the same old beaches worldwide, though have plenty of activities, yet no interesting history surrounding them. To that end, beaches that are haunted could be an interesting story that might attract visitors interested or doing researches on ghosts. Beaches with a specific history are sure to attract inquisitive travelers.

Likewise, Ocracoke Island in North Carolina has a certain history to its name as the world’s most notable pirate was caught here. The island is situated at North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Once upon a time during the 1700s era, it was popular for a flourishing trade business with large vessels containing goods docking here from all parts of the world. It was pretty natural of pirates choosing this place with goods arriving here from all over. History tells Edward Teach, pirate, also known as Blackbeard was caught here, but later released after promising to give up this plundering life. Just as many other pirates would have naturally done, Blackbeard failed to keep his promise and returned after a few weeks making the Virginia Governor issue a stricter order for his capture, and he was finally caught in 1718 in Ocracoke.

At the present time, Ocracoke runs through a coastline of 16 miles with pristine beaches appropriate for shell gathering, fishing, lazing about in the afternoons and swimming.

You could get to Ocracoke either by a private plane, boat or a ferry unlike other islands that are interconnected through bridges. You could also take a free ride by a ferry that takes 40 minutes and is available throughout the year from Hatteras.

Traveling can sometimes be fun when you head for an unknown destination, and to your surprise, the destination isn’t known to many, yet a fantastic place. One such destination that comes to mind is Sihanoukville in Cambodia. However, many might have heard about this place and quite frequented by now. The Cambodian beach resorts at Sihanoukville are just good as it gets, and the time spent on the parks and islands would surely be remembered for a long time. There’re a variety of adventure sports to settle into like boating, scuba diving, waterfalls and trippy jungle treks. Cambodia, as we know, economically is pretty down where some people find it really hard to meet their daily needs, and travelers often visiting Cambodia offer generous amounts of donations for the welfare of kids. Sihanoukville surroundings are way too simple and culture pretty evident the moment you step in.

Sihanoukville has long miles of beaches great for partying and has a 5-Star tag to it. The island could be reached by crossing the bridge. The inception of Sihanoukville being less than 3 years now, there’s not much crowd coming in, and if you decide to come over here with a bunch of friends, that might just as well sound very good. The prices at Sihanoukville are comparatively cheaper than other Asian beach resorts. In case you really don’t want to stay in the hotel, houses could also be rented through locals.

Extending your visa prior is advisable as the island looks uninhabited and you might want to stick on for a longer period of time. Hotel rooms have hot water, fridge and also cable TVs, the comforts of which make you feel at home. Food isn’t expensive either, though you might have to settle in for Asian delicacies for the most part, but you also do get Thai, French, Vietnamese, German, Italian foods to name a few. Communicating with locals wouldn’t be much of an issue as they understand English pretty well and can converse too.

To that end, going to an unknown destination that has loads to offer in the way of peace and tranquility and a place as far as Cambodia is, is not a bad idea after all. When the place gets crowded in a few years with many buildings around, sadly it wouldn’t be the same place as it was, and you might miss the raw feel it once offered. When it comes to categorizing Asian beach resorts, Sihanoukville stands close to the best in Asia in terms of quality, management and the best part simplicity of Cambodia.

We all know what it means like longing for a good vacation and the extensiveness it involves while planning it. In order to fulfill our dreams, we end up searching numerous travel blogs in hopes of finding our travel interests. Now, here lies the real problem as all the beach destinations you want to dive in sound the same for the most part such as clean waters, pristine sands, though which cannot be excluded, becomes quite boring while going through the blogs in whole. We rather thought of beaches that had a value in the past or carried great stories or secrets from a long time. A beach would definitely excite anybody, but a beach with a strange history adds a charm to the place. When you think about beach destinations and the luxury offered by some of the best resorts in the world, there’re many, but have no major stories to tell you. Especially, for adventure seekers, you need to visit unique beaches.

Robin Hood’s Bay – England

Let’s talk about Robin Hood’s Bay in England. It was widely known for a great network of smuggling carried out here including involvement of the clergy. Evidence suggests that settlements here were around 3000 years old. One could still get numerous fossils along the marshes. This particular village on the Yorkshire Coast of England was best known as smugglers’ paradise in the 17th Century. The land is primarily protected on all the three sides from marshy moorland. This was the prime place for smuggling tax-free contrabands like silk, tea, tobacco and gin from ships traveling from countries like France and Holland. The operation was quite massive with top clergymen involved and also farmers, fishermen and the gentry. During this time, there were many battles fought when tax men tried to evade smugglers from carrying out their illegal activities. In case tax men were sighted, bay wives would act quickly and pour hot water off their house windows onto the law enforcement agencies. Secret passages for smuggling large bundles of silk were many within the village.

At the present time, this village is well known for its friendly beaches, national parks, rock pools and offerings such as numerous pubs, cafes and tearooms available. People interested in hunting fossils might also try out their luck, as they might bump into some souvenirs somewhere in the moorland.

Getting Here :

There are regular train services running from London to Yorkshire, then change trains and head to Scarborough. Bus services are available from Scarborough to Robin Hood’s Bay. There’re also ferries that run on a daily basis from Rotterdam and land at Hull.

Traveling to any destination is mind pleasing, and not to mention the euphoria it creates when the travel destination involves a beach. The clean waters, never ending sea from the seashore, the clean pebbles, playful sand, basking in the sun, watching the waves roll by are lifetime experiences, and if the beaches are maintained for tourism only, then it’s just simply awesome to be there. South American beaches portray unique pictures on one’s mind, particularly if you’re planning a nude beach visit.

South America in and of itself depicts colorful traditional and cultural environment. Cuisines to be savored are plenty that adds a lot to its resume. With everything set in place for a perfect tourism attraction, nude beaches make the inquisitive go mad and perhaps one of the prime attractions in South America.

Well, it doesn’t mean you have to be completely nude in nude beaches. Nude beaches are often flocked by beach enthusiasts wearing the most common skimpy outfits that are accepted and also called as thong or tanga in simple terms. You also have more skimpy outfits such as fio dental. Normally, beach enthusiasts visit beaches to get tanned and get exposed to sun after spending days of chilly nights and mornings. Legitimization of such revelations is taken care of by the Brazilian authorities quite well, and Brazil being one South American country to have accepted nudity or naturist beaches. Plenty of resorts in South America promote nudity and is also legally accepted; however, there have been a lot of conservationists debating about the issue that now seem to agree if the limit does not exceed, but stays the way it is.

The decision to embrace nudity to certain extent is triumph for both fighting for it and also tourists that keep visiting South American beaches quite regularly now. Necessary brochures are provided to tourists to check into resorts of their choice with or without a nude beach. One could see topless women basking in the sun only in Brazil, though it’s not advisable to do so in other parts, and it’s not entirely risky if conditions favor the purpose.

Well, the debate to promote more nude beaches is not a bad one at all considering we never wore any clothes when we were born. To be diplomatic in a certain way, not entirely for it or against it if the limits don’t exceed and lead to other harmful behavioral forms. If these indeed pose a major threat for women frequenting nude beaches, then it’s a problem unless authorities know how to handle the situation, and they have plenty up their sleeves to curtail any untoward incident. Once a man asked why women looked beautiful, the other replied it’s because of the clothes they wear. Well, we have our own instincts to judge what’s right and wrong even if we are dressed or undressed.
